Parent-led content classification as a public good.

ParentProof.org exists to hold the parent-facing surface of content classification independently of the commercial actors that license classification to platforms. We are a non-profit because the work is too important to do for profit and too easy to corrupt when it is.

Why this exists

Content classification has a credibility problem when it is wholly commercial. A parent-facing rating run by the same entity that licenses classification to platforms, ad networks, or device makers has an obvious conflict: the commercial side wants to sell a product; the parent-facing side needs to call the product honestly, even when honesty makes the product harder to sell.

The fix is structural, not editorial. ParentProof.org was incorporated as a separate non-profit on day one to hold the parent-facing surface independently. It has its own board, its own funding, its own bylaws, and its own community council. Its independence is enforced by the bylaws, audited annually, and reversible only by the Board.

What we do

  • Steward the community directory. The classification of channels, shows, brands, toys, snacks, apps, games, and the eight other coverage categories is held by ParentProof.org as a public-good directory. Listings, ratings, and the methodology behind them are public.
  • Hold the technology partnership accountable. ParentProof uses AEGIS under a disclosed no-cost technology agreement. ParentProof reviews the relationship annually and has the structural authority to terminate it.
  • Operate the community council. Disputes, drift calls, and recall judgments go through a six-step community council process with public minutes and a published decisions log.
  • Publish independent ratings. Six inputs, one rating, every input visible. Bayesian Wilson lower bound, 0–100. Scores are not rankings; they are decompositions you can audit.
  • Run the alerts system. Subscribers tell us what to whisper. We do not market, we do not upsell, we do not cross-sell.

What we do not do

  • Sell data. Community member data is not sold, traded, or shared with commercial partners, founding supporters, or sponsors.
  • Serve ads. No advertising surfaces on parentproof.org or in alerts.
  • Charge for access. The directory, the ratings, and the alerts are free. Donations are voluntary; donors do not get rating influence.
  • Promote any commercial product. Including tools that contribute to our workflow, products tied to early supporters, or anything associated with a sponsor.
Scoped · AEGIS engine

The AEGIS classification engine that powers one of the six rating inputs is scoped and the engineering repo is bootstrapped (RelayOne/aegis). On listings, AEGIS output is logged as one input among six, never as the score itself. The engine is not yet shipped as a product.

TBD · non-profit formation

Formal non-profit registration may not yet be filed. The bylaws, board structure, and independence rule are written and ratified; the public filing follows a defined timeline. See /governance and /transparency for current status.

Standards we hold ourselves to

The five disclosed funding sources are public. The independence rule is in the bylaws. The community council process is run on the record. Annual reports document funding flows. Anyone with an independence question can email [email protected] or the dedicated address listed at /contact.
